The woman, who studies in a dental college, was forced to leave her husband’s home. She complained to a women’s commission court in Kottayam in September 2015.

The woman has alleged that she was tortured by her in-laws - who supported their son after he abandoned her. She has appealed the women commission to help her track down her husband; she believes he is in Dubai.

"He gave me fake information about his work and a fake residential address. We are three women in our family who are emotionally, physically and financially broken. We cannot track him down by ourselves. My father is no more", the woman told NDTV.

On August 1, 2014,  she had to called the police from her in-laws’ home. "I am scared for my life. Police had to rescue me once from home. We need the money that we paid him for the marriage," she said.

The woman’s mother had allegedly given the groom 10 lakh rupees and 660 grams of gold before the wedding in February last. Two weeks later, he ended the marriage using the popular messaging app.

"Neither he, nor his family have appeared before the family court or police," the woman said.

The woman’s mother says she hasn’t slept for several months. She keeps repeating, "Save my daughter, save my daughter from this mess."

The state women’s commission has directed the department for Non -Resident Keralites Affairs to trace the husband.

The groom’s parents, who stay in Kerala, have been issued notice to appear before the women’s commission court.
