Kashmir, Apr 10, 2017 : The Election Commission on Monday postponed the polling for the by-election in Anantnag parliamentary constituency in Jammu and Kashmir by almost one-and-a-half month.
The polling for the by-election in Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency was scheduled to be held on Wednesday. The EC now decided to postpone it to May 25.
The EC took the decision to postpone the polling in Anantnag a day after eight youths were killed when security personnel had to fire upon mobs that sought to disrupt voting for the bye-election in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency. The polling in Srinagar also recorded a very low turnout of less than 8%.
The commission said that it had decided to postpone the polling after receiving a report from the state administration.
