Chennai, Feb 16, 2017: Edappadi K Palaniswami, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (AIADMK) general secretary VK Sasikala`s choice, will be sworn in on Thursday evening as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the Raj Bhavan announced.
The Governor told the minister, who was earlier elected leader of the AIADMK legislature party after Sasikala’s legal troubles, to prove his majority in the Assembly within 15 days.
Earlier on Wednesday, AIADMK general secretary Sasikala, held guilty for corruption, returned to the Bengaluru jail.
The news triggers wild celebrations at the Golden Bay Resort where AIADMK MLAs backing the now jailed Sasikala are holed up.

In a statement, Raj Bhavan says that the Governor appoints Edappadi K Palaniswami as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, asks him to seek a vote of confidence in 15 days.
Tamil Nadu Governor formally invites AIADMK’s legislature party leader Edappadi K Palaniswami to form the government. The swearing-in will take place at 4 pm. Palaniswami has been given 15 days time to prove his majority.
Sasikala’s nephew, TTV Dinakaran, who was on Wednesday appointed party deputy general secretary, KA Sengottaiyan, SP Velumani, KP Anbalagan, D Jayakumar are part of Palaniswami’s delegation at Raj Bhavan.
