Eight-year-old boy killed as UP Police, criminals exchange fire

Lucknow, Jan 18, 2018: An eight-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday in a firing exchange between police and criminals in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura on Wednesday, police said.

A bullet hit Madhav Bharadwaj in the head during a shootout between police and alleged criminals, who were, according to the police, involved in a recent robbery and were hiding in Mohanpura village, about 450 km from the state capital.

Principal Secretary, Home, Arvind Kumar said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the "unfortunate incident" and ordered a probe by the Inspector General of Police, Agra.

Adityanath has also sanctioned a financial aid of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
