Encounter breaks out in J&K’s Budgam, 3 LeT terrorists trapped: Police

Srinagar, Aug 10, 2022: An encounter broke out in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of Wednesday, police said.

Three terrorists of terror outfit LeT (trf), including terrorist Lateef Rather, have been trapped in an ongoing encounter, police said.

"Terrorist Lateef is involved in the killings of several civilians, including Rahul Bhat and Amreen Bhat," said ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar told news agency ANI.

"#Encounter has started at Waterhail area of #Budgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone police had said in a tweet.

In May, terrorists fired at and killed Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat, an employee of the revenue department, in Budgam. After the incident, members of the Kashmiri Pandit community took to the streets in protest. Two terrorists involved in the attack on Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat were killed in the encounter later.

Kashmiri TV actor Amreen Bhat was killed by unidentified terrorists in Budgam’s Chadoora area on May 26.

On Sunday, a ‘hybrid’ terrorist of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was arrested by the Indian Army’s 34 RR unit in the Budgam area. The officials also seized incriminating materials which include 5 pistols, 5 magazines, 50 rounds and two hand grenades from him, ANI said in a report.

On August 5, a soldier was injured after an encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam area. Two terrorists escaped from the scene while one person was trapped after he was injured.
