Engineer kills self as crow sat on his head

Bangalore, July 19: It is common to hear of young men ending their lives over troubled relationships or harassment at colleges or even workplaces.

In a strange case of suicide, a young engineering graduate in Bangalore decided to end his life as a crow sat on his head - twice - the same day.

Crow on head-1Anand VH, 23, a resident of Rajajinagar committed suicide on Thursday, allegedly, by consuming poison at his rented accommodation, according to a report in Bangalore Mirror.  The news of his death came to light when his older brother, came from Gadag to check him, out of anxiety.

Anand, a Hindu by religion, was so panicked by the incident of crow perching on his head that he called his mother on Wednesday to narrate the incident. His mother prescribed him visiting a temple and also lighting a lamp to eschew any fear.

However, mother’s advice was to no avail as Anand finally decided to take the drastic step.

His elder brother, V H Hampanna, who shared the rented room, had gone to Gadag when the incident took place.

Hampanna was quoted by the newspaper as saying, "My brother had called my mother, Parvathi, and told her about the crow. He was very tense when he spoke. My mother rushed to an astrologer and on his advice told Anand to pray at the Hanumantharaya Swamy temple."

Though no poison bottle was found in the room, Hampanna is sure that it’s a case of suicide due to Anand’s superstitious belief.

Anand’s colleagues told the local police that he was distressed by the incident and told them that he had fled the spot where crow sat on his head for the second time.

Albeit many religious gurus deny it, many Hindus consider it is a bad omen for a crow to perch itself on one’s head twice.

The engineering graduate must have consumed poison elsewhere before arriving home, claims police, who have registered a case of unnatural death.
