Malappuram, May 14, 2022: A former school teacher has been arrested in the Malappuram district of Kerala for allegedly molesting more than 60 students in 30 years and an inquiry has been ordered into this incident.
KV Sasikumar, a former teacher at St. Gemmas Girls Higher Secondary School in Malappuram and a member of the Malappuram Municipality Council, was arrested by the police on Friday.
Meanwhile, Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty ordered an inquiry into this incident. The minister ordered Public Education Director Babu K IAS to investigate the faults of the school management and submit the report as the earliest.
Sasikumar went absconding after a case was registered at the Malappuram Women’s Police Station under the POCSO section. The police could arrest the teacher only after a week.
A complaint had been lodged against Sasikumar for molesting students when he was a teacher at school. More than 50 students have lodged complaints against him.
KV Sasikumar, a CPM leader and a three-time Malappuram Municipal Councilor, retired from the St. Gemmas Girls Higher Secondary School in March 2022. The first ‘#MeToo’ allegation was made by one of the school alumni following Sasikumar’s Facebook post about his retirement from teaching.
Sasikumar resigned from the Municipality councillor post after more students came forward with complaints.
According to the school alumni association, some students had filed a complaint against Sasikumar in 2019 but the school management didn’t take any action against him. The alumni association had approached the Malappuram district police chief with more complaints.
Following these incidents, Sasikumar, a member of the CPI(M) branch committee, was expelled from the party.
