Patna, Jul 14 , 2017 : As the strained relation between the two alliance partners in Bihar – the RJD and the JD (U) – hangs by a thread, the Janata Dal (United) on Friday asked Lalu Prasad to explain his son’s source of income and also dwell at length how he has been charged with amassing huge wealth.

“It’s not a major issue as is being made out to be. All you have to do is to explain your source of income and say how you amassed so much of huge property. If you (read: Tejashwi) have done no wrong, then give a befitting reply to your opponents through point-by-point rebuttal. The matter will end there,” said JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar here on Friday.

Amid indication that Nitish was not ready to budge from his stand that a person charged with corruption cannot continue in his Cabinet, a section of media claimed that Congress president Sonia Gandhi reportedly talked to Bihar Chief Minister as well as Lalu Prasad on Friday and played the role of a peace-maker.

However, when Deccan Herald contacted a top AICC functionary for confirmation of this news, the DH correspondent was told that Sonia had called up Nitish two days back to thank him for his support to the Opposition’s Vice-presidential candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

“Besides, she urged Nitish to remain united with the Opposition during the ensuing Monsoon session of Parliament so that the Modi Government could be cornered on several sensitive issues. There was not much deliberation about Bihar imbroglio,” the senior Congress leader told DH. The source, however, added that since Sonia wants the Grand Alliance to continue in the State, the Bihar Congress president Ashok Choudhary met Nitish here on Friday and discussed how to overcome the deadlock.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad, who was earlier in the day in Ranchi and appeared in a fodder scam case, returned to Patna on Friday evening. Sources within the Government said a face-saving formula was being worked out how to tide over the crisis in which neither of the side should appear like a winner. “Chances are that once the Presidential poll is over on July 17, Tejashwi may convene a Press conference and explain his position about how he was “implicated by the CBI.”
