Barabanki, Sep 10, 2021: An FIR was registered against AIMIM national president Asaduddin Owaisi and one other person for provocative speech and violating Covid-19 guidelines during an event in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
While addressing a rally near Katra Baradari in the poll-bound state, Asaduddin Owaisi referred to the razing of a mosque in Ram Snehi Ghat tehsil on the Barabanki-Ayodhya border in May. Authorities had claimed the mosque was an illegal structure, but locals had insisted that it had stood there for a century.
Owaisi charged that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath “sacrificed” the mosque when there was talk of replacing him in the state.
The AIMIM chief raked the subject of how efforts are being made to undermine secularism in India and transform the country into a “Hindu Rashtra”.
He also alleged that Dalits and Muslims have become victims of mob lynching since 2014, when the BJP-led coalition came to power at the Centre.Referring to the killing of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was attacked by a mob on suspicion of cow slaughter at a village near Dadri in UP’s Gautam Buddh Nagar in 2015, Owaisi said, "Such atrocities are taking place because Modi is the prime minister and the BJP government is helping such elements.”
Police in Barabanki have booked Owaisi and the organizer of the event under the Epidemic Diseases Act, for disturbing the communal harmony and delivering scathing remarks against PM Modi and CM Yogi.
According to reports, the organizers were given permission to host only 50 people, but the event turned into a public meeting and many more people than permitted showed up, in direct violation of Covid-19 norms.
SP Barabank Yamuna Prasad told India Today, “The permissions granted and Covid-19 restrictions were openly flouted at the event. Mr Owaisi gave inflammatory speeches to provoke a certain community and disturb the communal harmony. He also used abusive language against the prime minister and chief minister of UP in his speech. A case has been registered under sections 153A, 188, 279 and 270 of the IPC and section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act.”
