First Lady of Maldives Visits St Joseph’s University

Bengaluru, Oct. 9, 2024: Her Excellency Madam Sajidha Mohamed, the First Lady of the Republic of Maldives and an alumna of St Joseph’s University (then St Joseph’s College), visited her alma mater on Wednesday. Madam Sajidha, who completed her BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry, and Botany in 2003, was warmly welcomed back to the university where she had spent her formative years.

The visit, which took place at 3 p.m., was marked by a warm reception from Vice-Chancellor Rev. Dr. Victor Lobo SJ, along with Pro-Vice-Chancellors Dr. Regina Mathaias and Dr. Ronald Mascarenhas, Registrar Dr. Melwin Colaço, and Rev. Dr. Richard Rego SJ, Director of the Office for International Affairs. Rev. Dr. Victor Lobo SJ delivered the welcome address, highlighting the pride St Joseph’s University feels in celebrating its distinguished alumni, and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to nurturing global leaders.

In her address, Madam Sajidha Mohamed spoke emotionally of her student days, recalling the transformative education and lifelong friendships that played a key role in her personal and professional development. She acknowledged the university’s lasting impact on her life, reflecting the deep connection felt by alumni.

During the event, Madam Sajidha Mohamed was introduced to the attendees by Registrar Dr. Melwin Colaço and was honored by the university’s leadership. The First Lady was accompanied by a delegation, including Ms. Fathimath Liusha, First Secretary at the High Commission of the Republic of Maldives in India, Ms. Lubaba Ali, Director (Personal), and Ms. Khadheeja Nashwa, Social Secretary.

Madam Sajidha also participated in an interactive session with faculty, deans, her former teachers, and classmates. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Rev. Dr. Richard Rego SJ, who expressed the university’s appreciation for her visit.

Madam Sajidha departed at 4 p.m., leaving a sense of pride and inspiration at her alma mater, which continues to shape leaders who make a global impact.
