Punjab, Dec 01, 2017 : The Punjab and Haryana High Court has expressed deep concerns over the Rs 15-lakh bill charged to the parents of a seven-year-old girl with dengue who died after being treated for 15 days at Fortis Hospital in Gurgaon.
Amicus Curiae Anupam Gupta informed the court that the hospital had issued a 15-page bill for 15 days of dengue treatment where 660 syringes besides 2,700 gloves were used. The number of gloves and syringes used for treating a single patient has raised eyebrows. He requested the court to issue a notice to the hospital authorities as the matter was serious.
The division bench of the High Court hearing in the case has taken a serious note of the ’court on its own motion’ case and said when the hospitals were charging Rs 15 lakh for treating dengue, then what would happen to patients with other diseases.
The court however, did not issue any notice to the hospital but directed the Haryana government to submit a report by December 12.
Haryana government has informed the court that a probe was already on and the court would be informed accordingly.
