Jhansi, UP, Jan 15: Four passenger coaches of Barauni-Gwalior Express travelling from Kanpur to Jhansi were gutted in a fire that occured near Moth railway station, a few km away from Jhansi on Monday evening. Passengers pulled the alarm chain and stopped the train, while fire tenders reached the spot. Nobody was injured, but the belongings of most of the passengers were reduced to ashes.
The fire occured in sleeper coaches S-8, 9 and 10 and a general coach.
As the flames spread, the train driver detached the four bogies from the rest of the coaches. As fire tenders had no water, local villagers provided water from handpumps and wells to douse the flames.
Passengers alleged that the railway authorities did not provide any assistance to them, nor did they make arrangements to transport them to their destinations.
