Sep 28, 2017: Heavy rain has been forecast for the city today Sept 28, Thursday, putting the fourth one-day international between India and Australia here at the Chinnaswamy Stadium at the mercy of weather.
It had rained heavily in the early hours of Wednesday and while the day was predominantly cloudy, just when the Indians were in the midst of their practice routine, it started to drizzle forcing the hosts to wind up their session early.
The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over the city, parts of south interior Karnataka and other parts of the state. The day-night match could get washed off if the same weather pattern continues, said an IMD official.
While the forecast isn’t encouraging, the state-of-the-art drainage system installed at a cost Rs 4.5 crore last year gives fans hopes of some action if the rain stays away. The high-tech system that kicks in the moment it starts raining, keeps the ground dry throughout, meaning a game could begin within few minutes after it stops raining. So even if the ground is battered by heavy rain for four hours, a 20-overs-a-side game — minimum number of overs needed to constitute an ODI — is not impossible.
