French consulate official arrested on rape charge

Bangalore, Jun 19:  The City police on Tuesday finally arrested Pascal Mazurier, deputy Head of Chancery, Consulate of France, accused of sexually abusing, assaulting and raping his daughter.

The police swung into action after they received a formal communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MEA) clarifying his diplomatic immunity status. Two passports, including the service passport, were confiscated from Mazurier.

The police arrested the consular agent from his apartment around 6 am. “He was taken to Bowring Hospital for a detailed medical examination. He was taken back to the High Grounds Police Station where the investigation officer thoroughly interrogated him for hours,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) B R Ravikanthe Gowda said.
