Gandhinagar, Sep 11, 2021: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani resigned from the top post on Saturday after being in power for five years. Rupani’s resignation as the chief minister comes 15 months before Gujarat goes to assembly polls in December 2022.
Vijay Rupani met the Governor at his residence on Saturday and submitted his resignation.
Addressing the press, Vijay Rupani thanked the BJP central leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "I believe that now this journey of the development of Gujarat should proceed under the leadership of the prime minister with new enthusiasm and new energy. Keeping this in mind, I am resigning from the responsibility of the chief minister of Gujarat."
Vijay Rupani said that he would continue to work as a BJP worker. "Now whatever responsibility will be given to me by the party, I will work with full responsibility and new energy under the leadership of the prime minister and under the guidance of (BJP) national president," he added.According to sources, the names of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, Gujarat BJP president CR Patil and state vice president Gordhan Zadafia are being considered by the BJP to succeed Vijay Rupani as the chief minister of Gujarat.
