Gun man kills 12 at largest army base of US

United States, Nov 6: In what could be termed as a macabre and shocking incident, a man gunned down as many as 12 persons at the  United States’ largest army base at Fort Hood, Texas on Thursday. The gun man who also happens to be a soldier, has been identified as Major Nidal Malik Hassan, a Jordanian with American citizenship.  Reports said he was  shot by an officer who too was wounded during the shooting. Reports further said that 31 persons were injured, two of them seriously  in the indiscriminate shooting that took place at around 1.30 pm on Thursday.

The accused  gunman, is a psychiatrist who worked at the Army Medical Centre at Fort Hood.

It is learnt that Hassan who had been posted to Iraq was unhappy with his posting. More details are awaited as it is learnt the US Army has strictly instructed its soldiers against divulging much about the incident. Army sources also revealed that the gunman has only been wounded and is not killed.
