Heavy rains in Mumbai ahead of season’s highest tide, people asked to stay off beaches

Maharashtra, Aug 03, 2019 : Mumbaikars woke up to an intense spell of rainfall on Saturday morning once again. The city has been experiencing torrential rainfalls over the last few days, throwing normal life out of gear. The India Meteorological Departement was warned of "heavy to very heavy falls" in Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours, Zee reported.

Heavy rains in Thane. Thane Municipal Corporation has ordered all government schools to remain closed in view of continuous rainfall in the city.

Landslide occurred in Raigad near Poladpur on Mumbai-Goa highway today, following incessant rainfall. Vehicular movement suspended on the route.

“Due to heavy rains, suburban trains are running with cautious speed causing some delays but no hold up of traffic as of now. Inconvenience is regretted,” tweets Central Railway.

Santacruz has received 133.9 mm of rain while Colaba received 56 mm. Adjoining district of Thane is worst affected.

The Municpal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has issued an advisory to people visiting areas near beaches in the city. The advisory titled ’Beach Safety Appeal to Citizens’

1. Citizens are requested not to venture into the sea water

2. High tide in next coming hours today at 1344 hrs (1.44 pm). Height 4.90 metres

3. Peak tide is extremely dangerous, In case of Help, please contact life guards on beach or contact 1916 or 101.

Mumbai is set to face its highest high tide of the season on Saturday. The high tide of 4.90 metres is expected at 1.44 pm.

Water Logging at Motilal Nagar, Goregaon West, SV Road, Jogeshwari West, Oberoi Junction, Malad East, Malad Subway and Dahisar Subway.

Heavy rains in Mumbai Western suburbs. Reports of waterlogging emerge from Andheri, Mallad, Boriwali and Dahisar. Mumbai Eastern also receiving heavy rainfall.

Andheri Subway and Malad Subway have been closed due to heavy rains and waterlogging.

Mumbai Regional Meteorological Centre Friday issued an alert of very heavy rainfall in Mumbai for the next two days on August 3 and 4. Moderate rainfall continued to lash the capital city of Maharashtra and the adjoining areas over the past five days.
