Historic Mysore Dasara Begins

Mysore, Oct.5, 2013: Festive fervour pervaded the atmosphere atop Chamundi Hill this morning as litterateur and Jnanpith awardee Dr. Chandrashekar Kambar officially inaugurated the 403rd edition of Dasara festivities by performing special puja to the jewel-studded idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari adorned in a silk saree and placed on a silver chariot at a specially erected stage in front of the Chamundeshwari temple at 10.45 am.

Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, who arrived in the city at 9.30 pm yesterday, District Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad, Public Works Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa and Co-operation Minster H.S. Mahadevaprasad were among those present at the function which was presided by Chamundeshwari constituency MLA G.T. Devegowda.

With the road leading to the hilltop asphalted and parking arrangements made at the area around the Mahishasura Statue at the entrance, the district administration has left no stone unturned to make the inaugural ceremony a fitting event with temples at the shrine glowing with a fresh coat of paint.

Dignitaries were given a Poorna Kumbha welcome when they arrived at the venue. Dr. Kambar and CM were felicitated by the District administration.

Speaking on the occasion, both Dr. Kambar and Siddharamaiah greeted the people of the State and called for communal harmony.

Regional Commissioner M.V. Jayanthi, Dasara Special officer and Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, Additional DC Naga Nayak, IGP (Southern Range) Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem, SP Abhinav Khare, Heritage Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, ZP President Koorgalli Mahadev, ZP CEO P.A. Gopal, Mayor N.M. Rajeshwari, Deputy Mayor Shailendra, MCC Commissioner P.G. Ramesh, MUDA Commissioner S. Palaiah, MLAs Vasu, M.K. Somashekar, Chikkamadu and S.R. Mahesh, MLCs G. Madhusudan and C.H. Vijayashankar, City Congress President C. Dasegowda, MDCC Bank President C. Basave Gowda and others were present. As a precationary measure, tight Police security was in place.
