India logs 37,154 fresh Covid-19 cases, 724 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, Jul 12, 2021: India registered 37,154 new Covid-19 cases and 724 deaths due to the infection in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry.

With this, the active cases in India touched 4,50,899 as per the health ministry’s update at 8 am on Monday.

Around 39,649 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which pushed the total recoveries in the country to 3,00,14,713. The recovery rate in India now stood at 97.22 per cent, the health ministry said.

A total of 14,32,343 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Around 12,35,287 people were given Covid-19 vaccine shots in the last 24 hours under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, bringing the total tally of doses administered to 37,73,52,501.

Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 12,220 fresh cases, followed by Maharashtra with 8,535 cases, Tamil Nadu with 2,775 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 2,665 cases and Odisha with 2,282 cases.

These five states account of 76.64 per cent of the fresh cases in the country with Kerala alone responsible for 32.89 per cent of the new cases.

Maharashtra reported the highest number of deaths related to the virus in the last 24 hours with 350 fatalities, followed by Kerala with 97 fatalities.

On Sunday, India had reported 41,506 new Covid-19 cases and 895 deaths related to the infection. The weekly positivity rate had remained below five per cent, currently at 2.19 per cent and the daily positivity rate stood at 2.34 per cent, less than five per cent for 34 consecutive days.
