India logs 6,650 new Covid-19 cases, 374 deaths over last 24 hours

New Delhi, Dec 24, 2021: The Union Health Ministry data on Friday showed that India registered 6,650 new Covid-19 cases over the last 24 hours — 11.3% lower than the previous day. This brought the total caseload to 3,47,72,626.

As many as 374 deaths were reported in the country during the same period, increasing the total reported death count to 4,79,133.

The top five states that registered the maximum cases are Kerala with 2,514 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 1,179 cases, Tamil Nadu with 607 cases, West Bengal with 516 cases and Karnataka with 299 cases.

A total of 76.92% of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 37.8% of the new cases. Maximum casualties were also reported in Kerala (323), followed by Maharashtra with 17 deaths over the last 24 hours.

India’s recovery rate now stands at 98.4%, with a total of 7,051 patients recovering in the last 24 hours. The total number of recoveries now stands at 3,42,15,977 across the country.Meanwhile, India’s active caseload was reported to be at 77,516. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 775.

On the vaccination front, India has, so far, administered a total of 57,44,652 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,40,31,63,063.

A total of 11,65,887 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
