India reports 40,120 new Covid-19 cases, 585 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, Aug 13, 2021: India registered 40,120 new Covid-19 cases and 585 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Friday morning.

With fresh cases, India’s overall coronavirus tally has mounted to 3,21,17,826, while total active cases stands at 3,85,227.

The country’s toll due to Covid-19 has surged to 4,30,254 as 585 more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, as many as 42,295 people recovered from the Covid-19 infection, taking India’s overall recovery to 3,13,02,345.

No death due to covid-19 was recorded in Delhi on Thursday, the second consecutive day when the daily fatality count was nil, while 49 fresh cases were reported with a positivity rate of 0.07 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department.

Also, no fresh death from coronavirus were recorded in Ladakh, while nine more people tested positive. Of the new cases reported Thursday, seven were recorded in Leh and two in Kargil, officials said, adding four people recovered from the disease, new sagency PTI reported.

Meanwhile, 43 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh, pushing the infection count to 17,08,851 on Thursday, while the death toll rose to 22,780 with four new fatalities.

Assam’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 5,451 as 17 more people succumbed to the disease on Thursday, while 935 fresh cases pushed the tally to 5,77,970, a National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin said.

Haryana on Thursday reported one Covid-related fatality taking the cumulative toll to 9,654 while 16 new infections pushed the total case count to 7,70,146.

Punjab reported 78 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the total count to 5,99,758, according to a medical bulletin.
