India reports less than 50,000 coronavirus cases after over 2 months, tally over 75.97 lakh

New Delhi, Oct 20, 2020: India has reported less than 50,000 coronavirus cases, recorded in the past 24 hours, after over two months. India on Tuesday added 46,791 fresh coronavirus cases to the total tally, taking the Covid-19 caseload in the country to just over 75.97 lakh, according to the data released by the health ministry.

It was on July 29 when India had reported a spike of 48,513 single-day coronavirus cases. The infections in India have increased since then, going up to over 97,000 one-day cases on September 17.

India’s coronavirus tally currently stands at 75,97,064. In the past 24 hours, 587 coronavirus positive patients have succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll in the country to 1,15,197.

Apart from the daily coronavirus cases, India has also seen a dip of 23,517 in its active cases since Monday. As of Tuesday, there are 7,48,538 active cases in India. A total of 67,33,329 people have recovered from the disease -- a rise by 69,721 since Monday.

On Monday, coronavirus cases in India crossed the 75-lakh lakh as the country detected a spike of 55,722 fresh Covid-19 infections.

Maintaining a "steady declining trend", the number of active coronavirus cases in India stayed below eight lakh for the fourth consecutive day.
