New Delhi, Dec 17, 2021: India registered 7,447 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 6.6 per cent lower than the tally released on Thursday. With these fresh cases, the overall coronavirus tally in the country has mounted to 3,47,26,049.
Meanwhile, 391 people succumbed to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing the nation’s toll due to the infection to 4,76,869, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare early Friday.
The maximum number of casualties were reported in Kerala (320), followed by Maharashtra with 19 daily deaths.
The top five states which registered the maximum cases are Kerala with 3,404 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 877 cases, West Bengal with 660 cases, Tamil Nadu with 627 cases and Karnataka with 303 cases.
As many as 78.84 per cent of the new coronavirus cases were reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 45.71 per cent of the new cases.
Also, India’s active caseload stands at 86,415 even as the number of active cases declined by 830 in the last 24 hours.
A total of 7,886 patients recovered from the viral infection in the last 24 hours, bringing total recoveries to 3,41,62,765 across the country. With this, India’s recovery rate now stands at 98.38 per cent.
Moreover, India administered a total of 70,46,805 Covid-19 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours. A total of 1,35,99,96,267 doses have been administered so far.
