New Delhi, Feb 09, 2021: The total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in India so far increased to 1,08,47,304 after 9,110 new cases reported in a day.
A little over 14,000 people were discharged during the past 24 hours, taking the number of total discharges to 1,05,48,521, according to details provided by the health ministry. It may be noted that the national recovery rate is currently over 97 per cent.
The country’s death toll from Covid-19 also climbed to 155,158, with 78 deaths reported in the past 24 hours. India has one of the lowest Covid-19 fatality rates in the world.
At present, there are 1,43,625 active cases in the country, amounting to just 1.32 per cent of the total cases reported in India so far.
A day ago, the country reported over 11,800 fresh cases and 84 deaths due to Covid-19.
Vaccinations in India
India’s vaccination numbers are also climbing steadily. According to fresh health ministry data, 62,59,008 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated against Covid-19, up by 4,46,646 over Monday’s numbers.
The second phase of vaccination has already started in some states, while other states are expected to follow suit soon. The third phase is likely to begin in March.
Meanwhile, the health ministry had said on Sunday that India is now the third topmost country with the highest doses of Covid-19 vaccine administered after the US and UK.
