India reports over 9,000 new Covid-19 cases, 81 deaths; over 87 lakh vaccinated

New Delhi, Feb 16, 2021:     India on Tuesday reported 9,121 fresh Covid-19 cases within a span of 24 hours, taking the total number of cases registered so far to 1,09,25,710. The number of cases reported today is lower than the 11,649 cases reported on Monday.

The death toll due to Covid-19 has increased to 1,55,813 after 81 fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours.

At least 11,805 people were discharged from hospitals across the country during the same period after recovery, according to updated data on the health ministry’s website. The total number of people who have been discharged after recovery now stands at 1,06,33,025.

Active Covid-19 cases in the country stand at 1,36,872, which is just a fraction of the total number of cases registered in India so far.

While the Covid-19 situation in India seems to be under control at the moment, Maharashtra has witnessed a fresh spike in new cases. Mumbai has also witnessed a 10-12 per cent rise in Covid-19 cases, according to BMC.

As far as vaccinations are concerned, over 87 lakh frontline and health workers have been inoculated and citizens aged 50 or above will start getting the vaccine from March.
