Kottayam, Aug 04, 2014: Diplomatic reports say, Tunisia on Saturday temporarily closed its main border with strife-torn Libya, leaving around 140 Indian nurses stranded in Tripoli. The nurses, most of them from Kerala, were hoping to cross over to Tunisia on their journey back home.
Indian embassy officials in Libya and Tunisia had on Friday ferried 58 nurses across the border to safety, 47 of whom had tickets to fly home.
"The first batch of nurses will leave for India by an Emirates flight on Monday evening. They will reach Kochi via Dubai," P Sudeep, CEO and director of Norka-Roots said. The remaining 11 will catch a flight home on Tuesday.
The second batch of 43 nurses, scheduled to leave Tripoli on Saturday morning, have been asked by the Indian embassy to stay back in their rooms. There anxiety for their safe return home at the earliest.
