New Delhi, Sep 25, 2021: Former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani will join the Congress party on September 28, as per party sources. Earlier this month, Kanhaiya Kumar had met Rahul Gandhi, sparking rumours of him joining the party.Initially, the induction was planned for September 27, which is the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. However, farmer unions have given a call for a nationwide protest on the same day. Rahul Gandhi will be present for the induction along with Congress leader Hardik Patel, according to sources.
Kanhaiya Kumar, a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI), is known for his rousing speeches, especially the ones during his JNU days. He took the political plunge and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Begusarai seat and was fielded against BJP leader Giriraj Singh.
