Bengaluru, Dec 15, 2023: The BJP will hold a protest near Channamma circle in Karnataka’s Belagavi at 3.30 pm on Friday, seeking justice for the Dalit woman, who was dragged out of her house, stripped naked, tied to a pole, and thrashed in the district by the family of a girl with whom her son had eloped.
Also, a five-member BJP women’s panel will head to Belagavi to investigate the incident and submit a report to the party’s national president, JP Nadda.
State BJP chief BY Vijayendra said, “Tomorrow (Saturday), a team from the Centre will visit Belagavi. Four MPs, including Aparajita Sarangi, Sunita Duggal, Ranjeeta Koli and Locket Chatterjee, will visit Belagavi on Saturday and speak to the victim’s family.”
The BJP will hold a statewide protest on the issue on Saturday, he added.
The incident dates back to last Sunday when a Dalit woman was dragged out of her house, stripped naked, tied to a pole, and thrashed in Karnataka’s Belagavi by the family of a girl with whom her son had eloped, police said.
Police said that the woman’s son was in a relationship with the girl for some time. On receiving the news of their daughter eloping with the woman’s son, the girl’s family rushed to the boy’s house.
