Bengaluru, Mar 5, 2023: Following a recovery of over Rs 8 crore unaccounted cash by Lokayukta from BJP MLA’s son Prashant Virupaksha, Karnataka Congress on Sunday announced a two-hour long bandh as part of their fight against corruption next week.

"The bandh on March 9 is aimed at attracting public attention towards corruption of the BJP government. We will stage protests and demand the Chief Minister’s resignation," Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar told reporters here.

The bandh will be from 9 to 11 am on March 9, he said, adding that educational institutions, transport and health services will remain undisturbed.

Lokayukta police had seized Rs 8.02 crore in cash belonging to Prashant from his house and office on Thursday.

Prashant was caught red-handed by Lokayukta police while he was receiving Rs 40 lakh as alleged bribe from the head of a private company that was granted a contract to supply raw material to Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited.

Prashant’s father, Madal Virupaksha, is BJP MLA who was also chairman of KSDL before he resigned from the post on Friday.
