Saudi Arabian, June 19, 2014: A ban by the Saudi Arabian government on cooking food in rooms provided to Haj pilgrims at Madina, has prompted the Karnataka State government to announce that pilgrims under government quota will get Indian food at subsidised rates during the pilgrimage.

haj R. Roshan Baig, Minister for Infrastructure Development, Information and Haj, informed, the agencies that were entrusted with providing accommodation to the pilgrims would also take care of the catering.

While lunch and dinner will be provided at subsidised rates, breakfast will be complimentary. It will be applicable to pilgrims during their stay at Madina. “This time, food will be made available only at Madina and the Central Haj Committee has tied up with six agencies for this. From next year, we will provide a similar facility at Makkah too,” he said.

A total of near 5000 people from the State have been selected under the government quota to go on pilgrimage for 2014.
