Karnataka logs nearly 33k fresh Covid cases; Govt advises against visiting hospitals unless medical

Bengaluru, Jan 16, 2022: Karnataka government has advised the public to refrain from visiting hospitals unless there is medical emergency amid surging Covid cases in the state. The health and family welfare department on Saturday issued instructions that patients who does not require emergency medical care are not required to visit hospitals. The order comes after crowding of patients in hospitals during Covid-19 third wave.

In the public notification issued by TK Anil Kumar, principal secretary to government, health and family welfare department it read, “In pursuant to the existing Covid19 situation, it is hereby informed that only sick and patients requiring emergency care may visit the hospitals/super specialty hospitals and autonomous institutions. All other patients with mild illness which requires outpatient care/follow up care/elective case including dental patients should not visit the hospitals for the next two weeks or till further orders to prevent crowding and the spread of Covid19. Private hospitals are hereby instructed to take similar steps to prevent the crowding and halt the spread of Covid-19.”

Meanwhile, Karnataka reported 32,793 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday with a test positivity rate of 15 per cent. The capital Bengaluru alone accounted for 22,284 new infections.  The state also reported seven related deaths of which five were from Bengaluru. The total number of active cases in the state is currently at 1,69,850.
