Karnataka man walks 1,700 km from Bidar to Kedarnath to seek lord Shiva’s blessings

Bengaluru, May 21, 2024: If you wish to travel to Kedarnath, you can take a bus, train or flight. But then the question is is it normal to walk in the hot sun? A devotee had the opportunity of obtaining Kedarnath darshan by trekking all the way. Dhantaj Sangalanghi from Karnataka’s Bidar walked 1,700 km for Lord Shiva’s darshan in Kedarnath.

One does not expect walking in the open under the burning sun in Bidar at such high temperatures prevalent throughout the country currently. However, Dhanraj Sangalanghi beat the odds and survived in the hot temperature. From Aurad in Bidar district in Karnataka, he set off on a solo trek that lasted 36 days and covered a distance of 1,700 km to Kedarnath.

Starting from Aurad, Dhanraj travelled through Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Agra in Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to reach Kedarnath in Uttarakhand.

He shared with News18 that he was fortunate to attain the darshan of Lord Shiva on the first day that the Kedarnath temple opened for the season. This is a great example of how far people can go to see the almighty.

Kedarnath is a famous temple in the Himalayas that is situated near the banks of the Mandakini River and also falls in the state of Uttarakhand. People from across the nation anxiously wait for one single day of the week, Friday which was on May 10 when the gates opened to visit this holy land of their faith. The temple gates were officially opened on Akshay Tritiya on May 10. The reason why you can only visit during Akshaya Tritiya and Kartik Purnima is because it is very cold there during the rest of the year.

Built around 1000 AD, Kedarnath Temple is one of the earliest extant Hindu temples thereby having a great historical significance. After the Pandavas were engaged in a bloody battle with their relatives during the Kurukshetra War, they felt guilty for all sins committed during that confrontation and sought pardon from Lord Shiva at Kedarnath Temple.
