Bengaluru, November 26, 2024: The Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka has petitioned CM Siddaramaiah, seeking permission to initiate action against “indisciplined” students - at least asking them to write an apology note.

The petition comes in the wake of a recent incident where a student passed a comment against School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, saying “Education minister doesn’t know Kannada.” The Association claimed that teachers were suffering such ’harassment’ by students every day.

In its petition, the Association has requested the CM to bring in stringent measures to keep such students under control. “As punishment is banned, teachers are scared even to raise their voice against students. We have come across cases where students pass derogatory comments on teachers. In such a situation, we urge the government at least to allow schools to obtain an apology note from the students,” reads the petition.

“If we don’t bring discipline at this age, what is the use of educating kids? Whatever the trolls or politics, students should be students and they must know how to respect elders and the position a person is holding. What message we convey by supporting or defending such students,” questioned D Shashi Kumar, the association general secretary.
