New Delhi, Mar 07, 2023: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday thanked his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan for raising his voice against the "illegal arrest" of opposition leaders in the country. Kejriwal’s comment came after Pinarayi Vijayan wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against alleged misuse of central probe agencies against non-BJP leaders, specifically mentioning AAP leader and Kejriwal’s aide Manish Sisodia.
"Thank you Hon’ble CM Kerala Shri @pinarayivijayan ji for raising voice against illegal arrests of leaders across India (sic)," Kejriwal said in a tweet.
In his letter to PM Modi, Pinarayi Vijayan said, "Manish Sisodia is an elected representative of the people and has been appearing before the investigating agencies in response to their summons. Unless the arrest was an imperative for preventing the impediment to the investigation, the desirable act would have been to avoid it."
"As per information coming out in public domain, nothing incriminating like cash seizure has taken place in the case of Shri Sisodia," he added.
The Kerala CM further said while the law has to take its course, it is equally important that the widespread perception that Sisodia was being targeted for political reasons needs to be dispelled.
"As we emphasise on the principle of cooperative federalism , excessive actions on the part of anyone concerned should be avoided," Pinarayi Vijayan said.
Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. The Delhi deputy chief minister was sent to the Tihar jail after a CBI court remanded him to 14-day judicial custody in the case till March 20.
