Kerala, Aug 31, 2020: Two workers of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) were allegedly hacked to death at Venjaramoodu in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Mithil Raj, 32, Haq Muhammad, 24 -- both DYFI workers which is the youth wing of CPI (M).
The gruesome incident took place in Venjaramoodu around 11.30 pm on Sunday, police said.
Mithil and Haq were travelling in a two-wheeler when they were allegedly stopped and attacked by a group of men.
While Mithil Raj died on the spot, Haq succumbed to his injuries at the medical college hospital, police added.
Rural SP Asok Kumar said there had been tensions between the two groups since the last Lok Sabha election. One of the suspects, Ansar, was earlier arrested in connection with a smiliar issue and was out on bail, the SP said.
CPI (M) has alleged the Congress was behind the twin murder. The police have also said their probe is around three suspects who all have Congress affiliation.
