Kerala, Oct 24 2019: According to the afternoon trends of the election counting in the five bypoll seats, the ruling CPM-led LDF is all set to capture two critical seats - Vattiyoorkavu and Konni. At the same time, the Congress-led UDF is expected to retain its stronghold seats of Ernakulam and Manjeswar along with wresting the Aroor seat from the CPM. The BJP, which has a single MLA in the state Assembly, is expected to draw a blank once again in Kerala. The saffron party was expected to do well in Vattiyoorkavu, Konni and Manjeswar seats, but it has been unable to make inroads into the UDF and LDF vote-banks.
These rounds of by-elections is also possibly the last big political fight for the LDF, UDF and NDA ahead of the 2021 Assembly polls.
The bye-elections to five seats - Manjeswar, Ernakulam, Aroor, Konni and Vattiyoorkavu were held on October 21. While the Manjeswar bypoll fell vacant after the death of the sitting legislator last year, bypolls in four other seats were necessitated when the sitting MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recent parliamentary elections.
