Kerala govt plans setting up micro-containment zones to fight Covid-19 surge

Thiruvanantapuram, Jul 31, 2021: The Kerala government has issued fresh orders on containment measures amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.

According to the government, it has been found that the micro-containment zones need to be set up in all the places where clustering of cases is being observed.

The government has also emphasised surveillance action and contact tracing of the infected individuals.

The administration in association with the local self-government institutions will take effective action urgently for enhanced micro-containment as well as for contact tracing to bring down the Test Positivity Rate(TPR) in various districts.

COVID-19 SURGE IN KERALA

Kerala reported 20,772 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, taking the total active case tally in the state to 1,60,824.

The state also registered 116 fatalities in the past 24 hours. With this, the death toll in Kerala climbed to 16,701.

As many as 14,651 people recovered from the virus during the same time period, taking total recoveries to 31,92,104.

In the last 24 hours, 1,52,639 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the state.

COMPLETE WEEKEND LOCKDOWN IN KERALA

The Kerala government has decided to impose a complete weekend lockdown on July 31 and August 1 in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state.

An official order said, "As part of Covid-19 containment activities, the LSGIs in the state were categorised based on the seven day average Test Positivity Rate (TPR) and certain relaxations on lockdown were extended to the areas where the TPR is less and special intensified stringent restrictions are being implemented in the areas where TPR is high.
