Bengaluru, March 14, 2025: The Opposition BJP-JD(S) combine members heavily came down on the government in the Legislative Council on Thursday for its alleged failure to maintain law and order situation in the state in general and the way police handled BJP MLC C T Ravi’s case in the winter session in Belagavi in December.
They accused the government of giving the criminals a free hand while tying up police hands in tackling law and order in the state.
Participating in a debate on an incident of a mob attacking Udayagiri police station in Mysuru over a social media post last month, BJP member C T Ravi alleged that the Congress party’s appeasement politics has started a new trend -- of dropping cases related to various mob attacks on police stations, including those in Hubballi, DJ Halli and KG Halli in the past and it has only emboldened a ‘community’ to attack more police stations.
Echoing the same, Leader of the Opposition Chalavadi T Narayanaswamy cautioned that if the government continues to give more free hand to criminals by dropping cases, the state may plunge into chaos as these criminal elements may start running their own style of law and order.
Senior Congress member B K Hariprasad conceded that the way Ravi was treated by the police was most inappropriate, but this incident does not make Karnataka a state slipping into to a Goonda Raj.
However, Hariprasad said that the Opposition members should refrain comparing Karnataka with Bihar, Madhya Pradesh or Uttar Pradesh where law and order is “very weak” compared to Karnataka and entire South India.” he said.
