Bangalore, Nov 9: The lawyers of Karnataka High Court on Monday held a protest demonstration against Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran, who faces allegations of land grabbing.
The chief justice was forced to suspend proceedings and walk out of the courtroom following intense slogan shouting by lawyers.
There were ugly scenes during the demonstration as protesting lawyers assaulted a member of media. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar had to intervene and promise action against the culprits to pacify angry media personnel.
Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, a farmers’ body tried to force its entry into land allegedly encroached by Justice Dinakaran in Kaverirajapuram. Around 300 farmers were taken into preventive custody.
Proposal to elevate Dinakaran into the Supreme Court was recently dropped after his name cropped up in the controversy. The judge has, however, denied any wrongdoing.
