Let Punjab Police come, but with papers and proof, says Tajinder Bagga after ghar wapsi

New Delhi, May 07, 2022: Soon after being released by the Punjab Police and returning home to Delhi, BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga issued a challenge to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and said he was prepared to fight the legal battle ahead.

 

“I challenge Kejriwal if he thinks that we will stop asking questions and stop raising our voices. I will fight this battle. I will not stop. I will keep asking questions of Arvind Kejriwal,” Bagga said, after returning to his Janakpuri home in the wee hours of Saturday, accompanied by friends and supporters.

"My fight for justice will continue. If Kejriwal thinks that he can threaten us, then he is wrong. He cannot stop us. Kejriwal can do whatever he wants," added Bagga.

Denying the Punjab Police’s claim that he had been asked to join the investigation multiple times but refused to comply, the BJP leader said, “I have already replied to all the summons that have been issued.”

Asked what he would do if the Punjab Police attempted to arrest him again, he declared, "Let Punjab Police come a hundred times, but with papers and proof."

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta, who hailed Bagga’s homecoming as a “ghar wapsi”, accused Arvind Kejriwal of misusing the Punjab Police to arrest Bagga on false charges.

“Kejriwal misused Punjab Police. Bagga has not committed any sort of crime,” said Adesh Gupta.Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, 36, was arrested from his home in Janakpuri, Delhi by the Punjab Police on Friday morning on charges of making provocative statements, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation. The case was registered on the complaint of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, a resident of Mohali.

Speaking to the media, Bagga’s lawyer Sanket Gupta said that the Punjab Police has no locus standi to arrest Bagga in Delhi. After he was taken into custody, his father lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police.

“Following this, a 97 CrPC application was given by the Delhi Police that there is case of illegal detention and we want to search the victim. The victim [Bagga] was searched and located,” he stated.

Gupta also said that while appearing before the Duty Magistrate, the BJP leader alleged he suffered two injuries -- on his back and shoulder -- during his arrest.

“Bagga also expressed apprehension that this sort of incident could re-occur. The Duty Magistrate asked the SHO to ensure adequate security is provide to the victim and the complainant,” Gupta added.

The BJP youth wing leader will appear before a Delhi court on Monday to give his statement in the matter, the lawyer said.

Tajinder Bagga’s arrest sparked a political slugfest between the BJP and the AAP, the ruling party in Punjab. The saffron party accused Punjab Police of "abducting" its leader, who has been vocal in his criticism of Arvind Kejriwal, and accused the AAP chief of pursuing vendetta through the state police.

The AAP rejected the charge and said the BJP leader was arrested for allegedly stoking communal tensions in Punjab.

As the political war of words played out, the police of three states got embroiled in the matter. Bagga was arrested by the Punjab Police from his home, stopped in Haryana while being taken to Punjab and brought back to the national capital by Delhi Police hours later.
