Police said they suspect that the brothers had hanged themselves at least two days ago as the bodies were quite decomposed.

The deceased were identified as Malkit Singh (40), Kuldeep Singh (38) and Sunny (36). All three were unmarried and lived with their bedridden father Harjinder Singh (85). Harjinder told police that his sons used to cook for him and feed him and do the household chores, but he hadn’t seen them for two days. He kept calling them but got no response, so on Sunday, he finally crawled out of his bed and to the other rooms, where he found the bodies.

Police said Harjinder was not well and did not know why his sons had taken such a step. He also did not notice the smell of the decomposed bodies, they added. While two bodies were found hanging from grills in the lobby, the third was found hanging in a room from the ceiling fan.

Police said that in an eight-page suicide note, the brothers had blamed two financiers of duping them of Rs 1 crore. It said that the men had sold the brothers’ property for Rs 1.25 crore, but paid them only Rs 12 lakh.

Kulwant Singh and Kuldeep Singh were booked on charge of abetment to suicide (section 306 of IPC) on the basis of a complaint filed by the brothers’ cousin Resham Singh. The FIR was registered at Dehlon police station.

Sub-Inspector Manjit Kaur, SHO, Dehlon police station, said, “The old father of the three brothers wasn’t able to recollect when exactly he saw his sons last.”
