Ludhiana court blast: Found links to Khalistani elements, drug smugglers, says Punjab DGP

Ludhiana, Dec 25, 2021: Punjab Director General of Police Siddharth Chattopadhyaya has said links to Khalistani elements, gangsters and drug smugglers were found in the course of the investigation into the blast at the Ludhiana Court complex on Thursday.

 

"We have found that there is a link to Khalistani elements, gangsters and drug smugglers," he said while briefing the media.

"We are facing challenges from terrorism and narcotics. Narco organised crime and terrorism are a dangerous cocktail. The case in Ludhiana is one such case," he said.

He said that the case was unravelled in 24 hours. "We found several leads from the spot. We found tattered clothes and a sim card, a mobile and a tattoo on the arm," the DGP said.

Giving details of the suspect in the Ludhiana blast case, he said, "The deceased was carrying explosives -- which was the initial assessment and turned out to be correct. Within 24 hours, we found the main accused. He was arrested in 2017."

On December 23, Thursday, an explosion at the District and Sessions court complex in Ludhiana claimed the life of one person, while five others were injured.
Sources say that Babbar Khalsa, a Pakistan-backed pro-Khalistan outfit, is suspected to be behind the Ludhiana court blast.

After a preliminary probe, the police and the National Security Guard (NSG) believe that the deceased was the one who planted the bomb on the court premises. According to sources, the man has been identified as a dismissed cop named Gagandeep.

According to sources, Gagandeep’s mobile phone exploded at the time of the blast. But he had a dongle through which he was using the internet. The NIA and Punjab Police suspect that he was taking information from someone online about assembling and activating the bomb.
