Male cheetah from South Africa dies in MP’s Kuno National Park, 2nd death in a month

Bhopal, April 24, 2023: Another cheetah, who was brought from South Africa, died in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park. Madhya Pradesh Chief Conservator of Forest, JS Chauhan, confirmed the death and said that the male cheetah, named Uday, died during treatment.

“Another cheetah, Uday, who was brought from South Africa, has died during treatment after he was found sick at Kuno National Park. Reason for death is yet to be ascertained,”JS Chauhan said.

On Sunday morning, the forest team noticed that the Cheetah looked to be in ill-health. Thereafter, the animal was tranquillised and brought to the medical center. The cheetah died during treatment at around 4pm.

A veterinary team will conduct postmortem tomorrow. The entire postmortem will be videographed and photographed.

Uday was brought from South Africa to Kuno on February 18 this year along with 11 other cheetahs.

This is the second cheetah death in the Kuno National Park. Twenty cheetahs were brought from Namibia and South Africa. Sasha, one of the eight cheetahs introduced in the Kuno National Park last year from Namibia, died in March. With the second cheetah death on Sunday, the number has gone down to 18.
