Ranchi, Dec 18, 2022: Even as the country is coming to terms with the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walkar, who was strangled and chopped into 35 pieces by her live-in partner Aaftab Ameen Poonawala, a similar case has surfaced in Jharkhand with eerie similarities. A man has been detained for allegedly chopping his wife’s body into 12 pieces in Jharkhand’s Sahebganj under Borio police station limits.

According to police, the mutilated body of a woman was recovered from an old house in Santhali Momin Tola area on Saturday evening at 6:00 pm. A preliminary probe has revealed that the accused lured the woman with false promises to marry her.

The victim, identified as Rubika Pahadin, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Dildar Ansari. Police said Rubika was the second wife of Dildar and the couple had known each other for the past two years. The incident came to light when the woman’s family approached the police to file a missing complaint and during the course of investigation, police recovered the dismembered body of Rubika.

Sahebganj SP told news agency ANI," 12 parts of the body of a 22-yr-old woman belonging to primitive tribal community found in Sahibganj. Some parts of the body are still missing & search for them is underway. Her husband Dildar Ansari has been detained by Police, the deceased was his second wife." (sic)

Police are suspecting that the accused used a sharp object such as an electric cutter to chop the body of a woman into several pieces. Further investigation into the matter is underway.

BJP SLAMS STATE GOVT

The incident has also triggered a war of words between the political parties with the BJP blaming the state government for the worsening of law and order situation.

"Atrocities against daughters are on the rise during the tenure of Hemant Sarkar. Some frustrated people of minority community are continuously targeting the daughters. But the government is not taking any step. If the government does not take concrete steps, then we will give a befitting reply to the government by hitting the streets, "Pratul Shahdev, state BJP spokesperson said.

SHRADDHA WALKAR MURDER

Aftab Poonawala, 28, allegedly sawed Walkar’s body into 35 pieces and kept them in a 300 litre fridge for almost three weeks at his residence in south Delhi’s Mehrauli before dumping them across the city over several days. The couple met on a dating app ‘Bumble’ in 2018. They came to Delhi on May 8 this year and shifted to the Chattarpur area on May 15. Shraddha’s father had not been in touch with her as he was upset over her inter-faith relationship with Aaftab.

On May 18, Aaftab strangled Shraddha after a fight broke out between the two and then a day later, chopped her body, bought a fridge to store the body parts before dumping them.

The couple lived together for some months in their hometown in Vasai near Mumbai before shifting to Delhi. In 2020, Shraddha wrote a letter to the police stating that Aaftab beat her and her parents were aware of the torture.

DNA extracted from bone pieces recovered in the Mehrauli forest area by the Delhi Police in connection with the grisly Shraddha Walkar murder case has matched with samples of her father.
