Haryana, November 25, 2024: A married man allegedly stabbed his live-in partner and school-time love, and set her body on fire in Haryana’s Sonipat over a domestic dispute, the police said, adding that he was arrested for the crime.
The accused was identified as Upkar and the deceased as Sarita who had divorced her husband. Both of them had been living together for six years in Rishi Colony in the Civil Lines area of the district.
How was accused nabbed?
The incident took place on October 25 when Upkar killed Sarita and burnt down the entire house to give it the shape of a fire accident, the police said.
Upkar’s wife was aware of his live-in relationship. Both the accused and the victim had been living as “husband-wife" for six years, said Manish Kumar, Crime Unit, Ganaur.
Upkar was a resident of Vishnu Nagar, Yamunanagar while Sarita, who taught in a college, hailed from Punjab’s Zirakpur. The accused was caught after the forensic examination of Sarita’s body revealed murder due to stabbing before burn injuries.
Victim’s brother files complaint
The investigation into the matter started when Sarita’s brother filed a complaint at the Civil Lines police station in Sonipat.
In his complaint, the brother said that his sister had divorced her husband, Kapil, who she married in 2004 and had a daughter with.
She started living with Upkar in Sonipat in 2018, however, the duo had disputes quite often, his complaint said.
He alleged that his sister had told him that Upkar had demanded money from her on October 20. The complaint further alleged that he received Sarita’s call on October 25, who said that Upkar was trying to strangle her, however, the phone went silent thereafter.
He later got the information that Sarita’s house caught fire the same night and she died in the blaze.
