New Delhi, Sept 25: Amid criticism over the preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, CGF chief Mike Fennell on Saturday gave a go-ahead to the Games Village, saying a considerable amount of work has been done in the past few days to improve the conditions there.

Addressing a press conference here along with CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, Fennel expressed hope that the momentum built will continue.

The CGF chief said he was pleased to know that some of the athletes have moved in, but added that still a lot of work needs to be done for the Games.

“The massive work being done now for Delhi CWG ought to have been done before,” he added.

The CGF chief said there were still concerns over hygiene and security of athletes and the Village.

Fennell further said that he was looking forward to all the countries arriving in Delhi for the Games, and added that teams will enjoy the best hospitality in the Village.

According to the CGF chief, all 71 countries are participating in the Games.

Fennell said he will again inspect the Village in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Kalmadi owned up for the delay in preparations for the Games but said all the blame did not lie with him.

“As chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, I will take responsibility but I wish the venues were handed over to us earlier,” Kalmadi said.

Fennell also owned up for the mess, saying, “We all have to share the blame and responsibility. This is not the only Games where we have problems but a number of things could have and should have been avoided.”
