Miss Mexico crowned Miss Universe 2010

Las Vegas, August 23: Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete is crowned Miss Universe 2010 by Stefania Fernandez during the Miss Universe pageant, Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 in Las Vegas.

 

India’s representative, Ushoshi Sengupta failed to make any impact. No surprises there. The biggest noise we heard over her was the criticism over her ambiguous evening gown. I said earlier it looked like she stepped out of the Barbie as Island Princess film. Those peacock feathers as embellishments. Ugh.

 

Miss Mexico piped the crowd favourite – Miss Philippines Venus Raj to the crown. Venus Raj has been ranked high consistently on online polls. The beauty lost out in the QA round though. She fumbled with her answer (barely gave one actually). She was nervous and her body language and answer revealed it.

 

 

Miss Mexico on the other hand, spoke confidently on the impact of Internet usage on youngsters. The right family values would help youngsters rise above the challenge of unsupervised internet usage. The judges lapped it up.

In the sub-pageant category, Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul won the Best National Costume as well as Miss Photogenic.
