The BMC has said samples of Mumbai-based Dr Shrusthi Halari have been collected for genome sequencing and analysis.

Speaking to India Today TV, Dr Shrusthi Halari said she is surprised about having tested positive for the coronavirus infection for the third time.

“As a doctor, I am flabbergasted. I have been giving tips and tricks to patients on how to stay safe and have followed all safety protocols, but still got the infection. Even though the symptoms weren’t severe, I got admitted to the hospital. It has been just 45 days since I tested positive for the second time, so this could have been a reactivation of the infection. My entire family was positive towards me. We started on medication. Thanks to the timely medication and vaccine, we didn’t have any lung involvement. Now I am fine,” the doctor said.

On the possibility of the third test being a false positive, the doctor said it wasn’t the case because she had symptoms which were more severe than the second time.
She took her first dose on March 8 and the second on April 29, 2021. “So, this could be a case of new variant at play. The BMC has taken my samples for genome sequencing and analysis.”

The doctor is fully vaccinated.

Mumbai’s Dr Shrusthi Halari on the timeline of her Covid infections:

June 17, 2020: “I was working in a Covid-19 centre at that time. I came in contact with a positive colleague and shared meals as well. But we never knew that he was positive. The next day he started showing symptoms, and I also got tested. I tested positive for Covid-19. I was in home quarantine and recovered.”

May 29, 2021: “I was showing some symptoms but I thought it was a cold and flu. My friends insisted that I should get tested since the virus is infectious and I have comorbid patients at home. I got tested and the report was positive. I recovered after the medication but the blood report showed some abnormalities, but I thought it was post Covid-19 inflammatory responses.”

July 11, 2021: “I tested positive for the third time. My mother was the one who tested positive first and then I tested positive. I don’t know whether this is a new infection or a re-infection, but the virus load increased in my body.”

On post-Covid effects, Dr Shrusthi Halari said she was asymptomatic when she first tested positive for Covid. “But after the second and third, I have been facing a lot of issues. I feel weak and have a headache. I cannot watch the screen for more than 10 minutes. My body keeps hurting. I can’t do basic work and have to take rest every now and then. The only good part is that there is no lung involvement and all parameters are fine.”
