NCB charges Rhea Chakraborty with abetting Sushant Singh Rajput’s extreme drug addiction

Mumbai, July 13, 2022: Actor Rhea Chakraborty has been charged by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) with allegedly procuring contraband for actor Sushant Singh Rajput and abetting his "extreme drug addiction".

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his residence on June 14, 2020. In its probe into the drugs case linked to his death, the NCB has brought in a total of 38 charges against 35 accused in the case.

The draft charges handed over by the NCB to the special court under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act gives details of charges against each accused.

For actor Rhea Chakraborty, then girlfriend of Sushant Singh Rajput, the draft charges state, “That in pursuance of aforesaid criminal conspiracy or otherwise, you accused no. 10 Rhea Chakroborty received many deliveries of ganja from Samuel Miranda, Showik Charoborty and Dipesh Sawant and others and handed over those deliveries to Actor late Sushant Singh Rajput and made payments for those deliveries at the instance Showik & Late Sushant Singh Rajput during the period March 2020 to September 2020.”

The draft charges state that Chakraborty has thus committed offence under section 8[c] read with 20[b][ii]A, 27A,28, 29 & 30 of NDPS Act 1985.
Section 8c of the act deals with “produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import inter-State, export inter-State, import into India, export from India or tranship any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance, except for medical or scientific purposes.”

Section 20[b][ii]A deals with accused who have dealt with small quantity of drugs and describes that the sentence here is of rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine, which may extend to ten thousand rupees, or with both.

Sections 27A 28 talks about punishment for financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders while section 29 prescribes punishment for abetment and criminal conspiracy.— Section 30 talks about preparation -If any person makes preparation to do or omits to do anything which constitutes an offence.

The draft charges in general against all 35 accused in the case states that they all “entered in to criminal conspiracy during the period of March 2020 to December 2020 with each other or in groups to procure, purchase, sale, transport inter city, distribute in the high society and Bollywood, finance the drug trafficking and or consumption of Ganja, Charas, LSD, Cocaine and other narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances without valid licence, permit or authorization within the Mumbai Metropolitan region and thereby committed an offence.”
