Nagaland Governor Vakkom Purushothaman resigns in protest

Thiruvananthapuram, July 11, 2014:  Former Mizoram Governor Vakkom B  Purushothaman, who was transferred to Nagaland by the NDA government, resigned from the post on Friday.

Vakkom"The transfer was made without consulting me," he said.

Talking to reporters on his arrival on Thursday evening, Purushothaman, a  veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister, had said he would get actively involved with party politics, but not in electoral politics.

In a reshuffle of governors effected by the Centre on July 6, Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal was transferred to Mizoram while Purushothaman was transferred and appointed as Governor of Nagaland. He was also given additional charge of the office of Governor of Tripura.

He was sworn-in as the Mizoram Governor on September 2, 2011.
